It has been a while since I posted my last music review, but have no fear, a new one is here, and folks, it’s a beaut! I had the recent privilege of obtaining an early copy of Tim & Laurie Thornton’s newest and self-titled album before being officially released (by the way, you can now obtain this album here http://store.timandlaurie.org/album/tim-and-laurie-thornton ). And let me just say, it is one of the best things in music right now!
There comes an album every now and then that is so honest, so mesmerizing, so powerful, and so beautifully orchestrated that it elevates itself on your playlist and remains there alone. This is Tim & Laurie Thornton. Every song on this album speaks of a growing and deeper love with Jesus, but it is certainly not to be thrown into the pile of many other “Christian” records. This is so unique because it is so devastatingly honest and open. There doesn’t seem to be any filler or frou frou added in, but instead it is clear that this is capturing true and inspired worship from Tim & Laurie. It speaks of the change that Jesus has inspired in their lives and the love that he showcases in them. With lyrics like, “Your love burst forth, o my soul’s restored! Oh my God, you are mine, and I am yours,” from the song I Am Yours.
The songwriting is so well crafted that you find yourself in a state of awe. It’s not just the lyrics though. Musically speaking, this album is stunning all its own. With mandolin, violin, guitar, banjo, etc. it seems there is not an instrument that doesn’t make an appearance with the talented duo. It’s got a real and a raw feel, and yet still seems to somehow be polished. The vocal mix of Tim and Laurie is incredible. They blend so well and work so beautifully together, and I have found that it is not possible to listen to these songs and not be inspired to worship.
